about

"The opening moments of Colleen O’Connell’s Burnt set the scene for a beautifully crafted journey, punctuated by honest and poignant lyrics. The captivating simplicity of the opening lyric against a sparse piano accompaniment provides all the opportunity for the song to grow and build, one that O’Connell and her production team did not let slip by... The production by Michael Carpenter is standout and O’Connell provides many memorable melodic moments in her unique singer-songwriter, folk-influenced style".

Traditionally, I’ve been one to dive in whole-heartedly in relationships, not holding back. I feel things deeply. I love fully. I hurt easily. It’s in my nature… When circumstances change, or when people move on, I feel these things. Being open [and therefore vulnerable] can be painful but it is also a fulfilling way to live. Well, it’s the only way I know how.

Burnt is not only about hurt and loss. It is also about rising above and writing a new story from the resources within.

lyrics

I have been burnt not one, two, three times
Sever and bruise what’s been lost

I have known friends and I have known strangers
It’s not the amount Too many too count

I put myself out on the line a - oo
I put myself out to dry
When I look back we will see it’s over?
When I look back will I see you gone?

It’s funny how just in a moment
Everything changes everything moves

I’m finding that I can’t stop thinking
About all the things I didn’t say

I’ve put myself out on the line a - oo
Shoulda put myself out again
For you, I’m glad to see it over
But I grieve to see you gone

It likely that they wouldn’t believe me
If I told of the things that I’ve felt

Focus my thoughts in the present
heart will catch up in good time

I’m taking the time to remember – oo
All the things we shared
Will our story become sorrow?
Or will it change us in good time?
